details:
Packaging
Little Seed Farm is nearly plastic free par some minor exceptions. They primarily use glass and aluminum for packaging, both of which are forever recyclables. They use locally produced packaging peanuts that are made from sorghum and are compostable as well as dissolvable in water. They offer two modes of shipping: normal and “zero waste.” The zero-waste option comes without product packaging (i.e., boxes), marketing materials, or packing slips. Instead, they include just the raw bar or jar for the product, their compostable sorghum packing peanuts, and unbleached PCR wrapping paper as needed.
Material Sustainability
Little Seed Farm uses almost exclusively ingredients that are considered highly sustainable (shea butter, olive oil, rosemary extract, cedarwood oil, etc.) There are minor exceptions, such as geranium flower oil, where ethical or sustainable sourcing isn’t specified. The majority of ingredients sourced and used are certified organic.
Energy Use and Footprint
Little Seed Farm is a small business with all production taking place on the 84 acre farm. This means that the carbon footprint of the brand is relatively small. Still, they use 100% solar energy derived from solar panels on the farm, making their energy usage exceptionally sustainable.
Waste Management
There is limited information regarding waste management in production, however, the small scale of operations and the procedures lend themselves to low overall waste output.
Business Model
The brand’s business model clearly prioritizes slow, intentional consumption. They avoid trend-driven, seasonal, or limited-edition products. Their inventory consists of a well-curated evergreen collection with minimal product churn.
